Announcement

This is not Jacob Miller, but Jacob Miller's mother and I will be posting "A Day in the Life of Jacob Miller" hopefully each and every day for quite awhile. We are using this blog as a tool for Jake to be able to look back over the course of time and see how his life choices and accomplishments have progressed. Jake is thirteen and his father and I feel it is time for him to start taking control and responsibility for his own life and the outcome of his education, responsibilities and life in general. So, starting tomorrow evening I will be sitting down each night and going over the decisions and the outcomes of those decisions in Jake's life. Some will be good and some will not. We will see how it all turns out at the end of each day. Good Luck Jake!!

Dear Jacob. (One of the best grandsons on the planet. No, the whole universe!!)
You have tremendous talent and possibilities for your future. you also have parents that love you and grandparents that love you but, most of all God loves you and will watch over and guide you IF you allow Him to.
Love Grandpa

Jake,
My generation was disciplined by beatings and whippings, long leather straps with shards of glass at the end, or days locked in metal dog cages without food or water. We ended up OK. Right? No really. I mean, it's not like we "torture" our children by putting their life on a blog or anything crazy like that.
Look at it this way, your Mom & Dad never had blogs for their teenage years. Think about that!!!
Let us know when you need a place to live. We REALLY love you.

Dear Jacob,

Just so you know, whether you have good days or bad days won't make any difference to me because I love you either way. What's really important about learning to be responsible is that it makes your life a whole lot easier when you become an adult.

Most kids can't wait to grow up and be on their own so they can do whatever they want. The only problem with that is doing what you want takes money, energy, and of course, time. If you don't study, you won't have a good job and therefore, no money. If you don't get a good job all your time and energy will be taken up working menial jobs trying to make enough money to get by. So, in a way learning good habits is like putting money in the bank. What you put in is what you get out with a little interest.

I know that life can be overwhelming at times. Especially at your age (all those crazy hormones). Maybe you should take one thing each week and work at making yourself more responsible with that one thing, rather than trying to do it all.

Just remember that your mom and dad love you more than anything else in the world. They want you to grow up to be happy and successful.
